Darren Fletcher Backs James Garner

Darren Fletcher has stated his support for James Garner who he says is a top-class player for Manchester United. James would be able to establish himself in United during the current season which Darren points out. He also states that, among the latest graduates of the academy, James is the one who has gained entry into the first team of Manchester United. He states that the central midfielder, 18 years of age, can be in the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer team. He made debut in United in March which resulted in a 3-1 victory for United over Crystal Palace.


Darren Barr himself came through the youth academy at Manchester United. He spent about 20 years with the club and has made about 342 appearances. He has also won the Premier Leagues, five of them and was named as vice-captain in the last season. Fletcher debuted for Scotland team in the year 2003. In the next year, he was the captain of the team, being the youngest that the club had seen over the century. He then assumed captaincy for full time since August 2009. Since then he has won over 80 caps and himself scored five goals for the team. Middle of his career he suffered from ulcerative colitis which affected his playing career between 2011 and 2013. In the current season 2018 to 2019, he has made 11 appearances. These have been under Nathan Jones and Gary Rowett. The only goal that he scored in 2018 was the game against Bristol City. It occurred on the 27th of October. He left Stoke when the campaign ended.

As evident from the support he provided to James, he is known to promote a program for deaf youngsters called Deaf Friendly Football. The program is under the foundation wing of Manchester United and is also carried out along with National Deaf Children’s Society.
