The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is extremely happy with the reception given to the midfielder Darren Fletcher, who recently returned to first team action after almost a year out due to an irritable bowel condition.

The 28-year-old Scotland midfielder is regarded as one of the best players within the Manchester United squad, but he was diagnosed with a rare form of irritable bowel condition. This forced him to get an indefinite leave of absence from the club, with many not knowing his expected return date. Some even were pessimistic by saying that it is unlikely Darren Fletcher would continue playing football.

However, he has given Manchester United a major boost ahead of their aspirations to lift the 20th league title by returning to first-team action in the Champions League group stage encounter with Galatasaray on Wednesday night. He was given a standing ovation by the supporters after he came on as a substitute in the match. Manchester United won the match 1-0 after a single goal from the midfielder Michael Carrick. Following the match, the Manchester United manager said that he was extremely pleased by the reaction from the supporters for the return of the 28-year-old.

“The fans recognised what a tough time Darren has had.It was a mark of respect that they gave him a marvellous ovation. Being out of the game for a year, it took him quite a few minutes to really get going. He did one or two good things but he can only get better after this,” said the manager after the match. Darren Fletcher came on for Paul Scholes with only 11 min remaining on the clock. Manchester United thus opened the new group stage campaign with a win over a Turkish club, who have had various success at Old Trafford.

DARREN MAKES HIS COMEBACK

Darren Fletcher has made a comeback in the Manchester United team after recovering from the abdominal injury. He played for United in the friendly match against Aberdeen. This was the first match for Fletcher in the last 9 months. He hadn’t played any match since November last year. Manchester United was defeated by Aberdeen in that match by 2-1. Fletcher came to play as a substitute in the second half of the match. He was running smoothly and seemed to have regained 100% fitness.

Fletcher has been with Manchester United right from the start of his career. He had joined the Youth team of United way back in 2001 when he was just 17 years of age. He played his first match for the senior team of United in March 2003 against Basel in a match of the UEFA Champions League. Fletcher didn’t take much time in cementing his place in the first team of United. At the end of the 2005-06 season, Roy Keane, who was the captain of United at that time, praised him a lot and said that Fletcher has got everything to become a great player. In the last season, Fletcher assisted in some goals and was performing decently, but, unfortunately, he had to take a break from football in November 2011 due to the abdominal injury.

The manager of United, Sir Alex Ferguson, is overjoyed by the return of one of his experienced players. Ferguson said that he hadn’t thought that Fletcher would recover before the start of the season. As per Ferguson, Fletcher was suffering from a serious abdominal problem and he was expected to regain full fitness around October. But, he worked very hard on his fitness and managed to make a comeback before the beginning of the season.

Scotland striker Kenny Miller has said that he is hoping that Manchester United midfielder and captain of the Scotland national team Darren Fletcher will be returning to the international fold as soon as possible.

The Manchester United midfielder has taken an indefinite break from the game after suffering a major illness. Even though many expect him to be back for the start of the next season, it is still unsure whether the 26-year-old will be able to play football again. Scotland striker Kenny Miller, who has been carrying the captain’s armband in the absence of their Fletcher, has said that he hopes to return the armband back to Fletcher as soon as possible.

The Scotland national football Association has previously stated that they would like to have done Fletcher back for the start of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers that will begin in September next season. Fletcher has not played football since November when he was diagnosed with an irritable bowel condition. Kenny Miller will be one of the key members of the Scotland squad in his absence, but he reckons that the presence of Darren Fletcher would be extremely positive for the national team both on and off the field.

“There are no questions asked about that” he told Man Utd news. “Darren is our captain. Whether it be myself or big Gaz (Gary Caldwell) who has been filling in for him, we know that Fletch is our captain and our leader. That’s why we are hoping he does make a speedy recovery and gets back playing in the team as soon as he can. He is a huge loss, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. He is our Cesc Fabregas. He is a strong character within the team, he is somebody we miss, and we wish he gets back as soon as he can,” said Kenny Miller.

FLETCHER WON’T RETIRE

Top league teams missing huge names, get attention – like Manchester City is missing Carlos Tevez.  But while Manchester City are now able to get Tevez back in this very important of the season, Alex Ferguson of Manchester United has been missing one of his very reliable footballer since December, even though very little have been created out of it.

When United player Darren Fletcher declared that he is intended to take a long break from the game in order to deal with the ulcerative colitis which has dogged him throughout the season, the Manchester Premier League side lost one of their most important footballer in the Scot captain.

Few people may say that this has not affected the defending champions as they now sitting at the top spot and very close to get their 20th league title. It may be true but several Manchester United fans will say that this team is far from the very strongest which Old Trafford has seen before Scholes came out of retirement which was a huge concern regarding the United midfield.

The question is would Sir Alex have turned to Paul Scholes had Darren Fletcher been fit? A fully fit Darren would not have let James McArthur or James McCarthy to control the match for Wigan earlier this week.

Fletcher, of course, is not a flair footballer like Carols Tevez who can with the match with his brilliant skills or a hat-trick, but he is not the kind of footballer Manchester United has been missing. They have good players like Nani, Chicharito, Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs or Ashley Young are just a few names to their disposal.

FLETCHER MAKING PROGRESS

Darren Fletcher was diagnosed with a rare bowel condition, which has forced him to take an indefinite absence from the United first team. However, the Scotland captain has now revealed that he is making good progress and expects to be playing football next season. He also said that he is coaching the Manchester United reserve team as of now. Fletcher was last seen in the 2-2 draw with Benfica in November. He has been an integral part of the Manchester United team over the last few seasons that Sir Alex Ferguson has struggled to replace him.

This led to the recall of Paul Scholes, who had retired the previous season. The arrival of Paul Scholes has to some extent made Manchester United not be worried about the absence of Darren Fletcher in their quest to win the 20th Premier league title. United are currently locked in a battle with neighbours Manchester City for the Premier league title this season. One of the clubs can finish without a trophy at the end of the season, but Fletcher hopes that it would be Manchester City.

“I’ve been really enjoying the coaching. I’m passing on advice to these players and it also gets me out of the house and keeps me busy. I’m feeling okay. I’m still not ready to come back playing or training yet but I’m listening to the medical people and trying to get myself right. The challenge and the focus is to be ready for next season with Manchester United,” Fletcher said in an interview given to the BBC. Scotland manager Craig Levein also has said that he is very much looking forward to having Fletcher back in the team.

It will be held in Brazil and the qualifiers for this tournament will be beginning soon.

Darren Fletcher’s career in football was under serious threat after suffering a chronic bowel condition. Manchester United gave him an extended leave until his recovery, which have sparked rumours that Darren Fletcher could be finished as a player. However, the Scotland international has been showing immense signs of recovery in recent months. As a result, he has now expressed confidence that being able to take part in the World Cup qualifiers for Scotland, although they failed to mention the possible time of return with accuracy. It is expected that he would not be returning to playing football this season.

“I’m still on medication, I’m still not training, but slowly but surely I’m getting better. I’m not putting a timescale on a comeback, I think that’s the best thing. With the condition it’s hard to tell. I want to be 100 per cent when I come back. I think I’ve tried before when that’s not been the case and it’s proven very difficult, so this time I want to make sure I’m 100 per cent, which is going to benefit Scotland and Manchester United,” Darren Fletcher said in a recent interview about his possible comeback date.
